FIND YOUR PIMAX

Which Pimax PCVR Headset Is Right for You?

Your PC is already doing heavy lifting. The question isn't whether a PCVR headset is worth it — it's which one fits the way you actually play.

Some people chase a wider view of the track. Some need to read a cockpit switch at a glance. Some just want to stay comfortable through a three-hour session. Pimax builds four PCVR headsets for four different answers, and the most expensive one isn't automatically the right one for you.

Here's how to find yours in about two minutes.

Start with what you want to see

You race wheel-to-wheel and want to see more of the track.
In racing, awareness wins laps. A wider view keeps the cars beside you and the corner ahead in frame, so you're not constantly turning your head to check your mirrors.
The Ultrawide optical engine of Pimax Crystal Super is built for exactly this — the widest horizontal field of view in the lineup, for drivers who value peripheral awareness. If you want that clarity at a more accessible price, Pimax Crystal Light is the entry point most sim racers start with.

You fly sims and live in the cockpit.
In flight sims, the details decide the mission. Reading a cockpit label, spotting a small instrument change, or picking out a landmark on the horizon all come down to clarity.
Crystal Super's 57 PPD optical engine is tuned for pixel density, making fine detail easier to pick out. And if you want high-resolution visuals across a wider range of PCVR games — not just one genre — Pimax Crystal Light is a strong all-rounder, with 2880 × 2880 per eye and QLED with Mini-LED local dimming.

You switch between genres and want one solid upgrade.
If you move between racing, flight sims, and everything else, you want detail without committing to a specialized optical engine.
That's Pimax Crystal Light. One configuration, up to 120Hz, detailed visuals across the board — the headset most people should look at first.

You value long sessions and a light, compact headset.
Comfort is what you feel in hour three. A lighter headset changes how long you want to stay in VR.
Pimax Dream Air weighs under 170 grams and Pimax Dream Air SE under 140 grams, both with Micro-OLED panels that produce deep blacks and rich contrast — the tech that makes night racing and dark cockpits look the way they should.

The three specs that actually change your experience

You don't need to memorize a spec sheet. Three numbers do most of the work.

Resolution and PPD — how sharp the details are. Resolution is how many pixels make up the image; pixels per degree (PPD) is how tightly they pack into your view. Higher density makes small text and distant objects easier to read, which matters most in flight sims. Lens quality and your GPU also affect what you actually see, so the number isn't the whole story.

Field of view — how much you see at once. A wider FOV improves peripheral awareness and immersion. A pixel-density-focused engine sharpens the center. Decide what you want to look at, then pick the trade-off — don't just chase the bigger number.

Display technology — how the image feels. QLED with Mini-LED local dimming (in Crystal Light and the QLED Crystal Super engines) delivers high brightness and strong contrast across mixed lighting. Micro-OLED (in Dream Air, Dream Air SE, and the Micro-OLED Crystal Super) switches individual pixels off for deep blacks. Neither is universally "better" — it depends on your games and your taste.

Find your match

  • High-resolution all-rounder:Pimax Crystal Light — 2880 × 2880 per eye, up to 120Hz, strong for sim racing, flight sims, and everyday PCVR.
  • Flexible flagship:Pimax Crystal Super — choose 57 PPD for detail, Ultrawide for a broader view, or Micro-OLED for deep blacks.
  • Light and immersive:Pimax Dream Air and Pimax Dream Air SE — both prioritize a light form factor; compare resolution and price on their product pages.

Before you order: your PC and your tracking

The best headset still needs a PC that can drive it. Higher resolutions and refresh rates ask more of your GPU, especially in demanding titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator, DCS, and iRacing. Think about your current hardware and whether you'd rather maximize detail or keep a higher, steadier frame rate — that answer narrows the list fast.

Tracking is worth a check too. SLAM tracking uses cameras in the headset and needs no external base stations. Lighthouse tracking uses SteamVR base stations and suits you if you already own compatible gear. Confirm the configuration and accessory compatibility for your model before you order.

Already own a VR headset?

Your next headset should fix the problem you notice most — cockpit text you still can't read, a view you wish were wider, blacks that look gray, or weight you feel after an hour. Start there; it's a better way to choose than comparing numbers alone.

You may also qualify for extra savings through the Pimax Upgrade Program if you already own a qualifying PCVR headset. Check the current terms to see whether you're eligible and which rewards apply.

Ready to choose?

The right PCVR headset isn't the one with the biggest numbers — it's the one that fits your games, your PC, and what you want to feel when you put it on.

Not sure? Start with Pimax Crystal Light for the best all-round value. Want a specialized view? Look at Pimax Crystal Super. Want it light and OLED? Compare Pimax Dream Air and Pimax Dream Air SE.
