Pimax EVO V2
V2.0.0 Is Here
Built with everyone who tested it first
The all-new EVO main interface, parameter configuration scheme, and PVRM & SystemUI window saving are now ready. Thank you to everyone who joined our beta test.
Thank you for walking the earliest miles with EVO
Before V2.0.0, there were crash logs, streams of feedback, and people willing to stick with an imperfect build. Every issue you filed and every suggestion you made was carefully reviewed and directly shaped this release.
EVO is our “proving ground” — letting early adopters try cutting-edge capabilities first; once mature and stable, those capabilities move into the main Pimax Play release. And the first step of all this was you hitting “Join the beta.”
Pimax Play and Pimax EVO have always been free, and will always be free. Let's keep making it better, together.
What's in V2.0.0
A brand-new main interface, plus new tools for power users. Here's the short list — see the FAQ for the full story, or just download and try it yourself.

01Which headsets support Hand Tracking, and why release it early?
Hand Tracking is only available on SLAM headsets. In the current version it is open to Dream Air, Dream Air SE and Crystal Super. Support for Crystal Light will be added in a later update, but hand tracking on these headsets is still a LAB version.
We released this still-immature hand tracking feature early, and made it usable inside SystemUI, because we found that players — especially flight and driving sim users — mostly don't use VR controllers during gameplay. Yet they occasionally need to bring up SystemUI to check the virtual screens, reset the forward direction, or view performance. These are one-off actions needed only occasionally, and reaching for a VR controller to perform them is inconvenient. So we released hand tracking early so that flight and driving sim users, when they occasionally want to make a quick setting in SystemUI mid-game, can do it with just their hands — without taking off the headset to find a controller.
02Which headsets support the Sboys3 SteamVR native driver?
The Sboys3 SteamVR native driver initially supported only the Dream Air Lighthouse edition. It has now been updated to add support for several Pimax headset models, including Dream Air SE, Crystal Light, Crystal Super and more. Please refer to the latest release notes for the exact scope of support. Support for more Pimax headsets is still in active development.
03Does video recording capture what I actually see — including rendering effects?
Yes. EVO's video recording captures the full composited output — menus, overlays and all active rendering effects are included in the frame. When Quadview is active, the recording precisely reflects the sharp center and softened edges you experience, rather than a flat wide-angle capture.
However, due to a known issue, video recording currently cannot capture the VST passthrough view. If passthrough is turned on during recording, the passthrough portion of the recording will appear black, but the recording will not be interrupted.
04Can I run Pimax EVO and the regular Pimax Play at the same time?
After installation, EVO replaces your current Pimax Play. EVO is a completely independent client, but it embeds the regular Pimax Play experience, and you can switch freely. Your existing settings, profiles and device pairings in Pimax Play will not be deleted or broken.
Please note, however: because this update adds save logic for parameter profiles, parameter settings are not synchronized between EVO and Pimax Play. That is, parameter settings changed on one side will not automatically sync to the other. That said, the EVO update already implements almost all of the feature settings available in Pimax Play, so you can complete the vast majority of settings directly in EVO without frequently switching back to Pimax Play.
05Will EVO features cost money? Is the free period guaranteed?
Pimax Play and Pimax EVO have always been free, and will always be free.
In the future we may integrate some third-party tools and services, which may be priced and charged for by those third parties. But that is not Pimax charging for its own features, nor does it mean Pimax will shift toward charging for its own functionality. For any third-party paid integrations that may appear, we will prioritize more transparent, user-friendly approaches such as one-time purchases, and try to avoid forced subscriptions, so as to protect everyone's freedom of choice and long-term experience.
06What happens to successful EVO features?
Once an EVO feature is mature and proven stable, it moves into the main Pimax Play release for all users. EVO is the testing ground; Pimax Play is where features live permanently. This flow keeps Pimax Play polished while letting early adopters use cutting-edge tools first.
Pimax Play will continue to serve as the long-term home for mature features, staying stable, refined and easy to use. This division of labor both preserves the quality of the Pimax Play experience and lets early adopters try new capabilities first. Some features may also keep iterating on EVO, prioritizing this group of users to better meet different needs — without affecting the overall Pimax Play experience.
07What is Parameter Profile Management?
Parameter Profile Management lets you create multiple parameter profiles and customize each profile's name and description. Profiles you create can be exported to a configuration file with one click, and other users can import someone else's profile file with one click.
Among parameter profiles, the default profile stays real-time editable and takes effect in real time, and remembers your last operation.
But for profiles you create yourself, changes must be saved by clicking Save; otherwise, if you exit the client or switch applications, the changed parameters will not be remembered by the custom-created profile.
Parameter profiles have a dedicated page where you can quickly browse all the custom profiles you've created. Each profile has a detail page, making it easy to understand exactly what each parameter is set to before you apply the profile.
08What is PVRM?
PVRM lets you use VR to play flat PC games. With PVRM follow enabled, the virtual window inside VR follows your head movement, and within that window the in-game character's viewpoint (first-person / third-person) also rotates as your headset rotates, giving a fairly realistic VR-simulated experience. But be aware of the stutter caused by performance.
At the same time, when PVRM is enabled, all VR applications and games on the PC will be closed. Likewise, if a VR application (including SteamVR) is launched on the PC while PVRM is on, PVRM will crash.
PVRM supports simulating a mouse, and also supports connecting a game controller on the PC to simulate a gamepad. You can enable PVRM and play with mouse and keyboard, or connect a controller and play with a gamepad. But for now we only support the Xbox controller; we will add support for more controllers over time.
Note: based on our testing, PVRM only works with some flat games, because due to certain games' settings those games switch the mouse mapping — a situation we are still finding a solution for.
09What is SystemUI window saving?
When I'm looking at charts, guides, chat or telemetry in the headset, I usually place a few windows where they're convenient. Previously, every time I brought up SystemUI, the windows would return to their default state, and I'd have to drag and resize them again — I wanted to look at something, but first I had to lay everything out all over again.
Now you can select and save the windows you need. During the current session, after you close SystemUI and bring it up again, the selected windows stay in their original position, size and orientation, with no need to drag and adjust them each time. Arrange your frequently used windows once, and keep using them the next time you bring them up.
However, restarting the client, the headset, or the computer will invalidate this save. Note: if you selected a specific piece of software running on the PC and placed its window at a suitable position and size, but you then manually closed that software on the PC, that cannot be saved — but our UI save logic will keep the last frame, so you can still tell which software the window was previously showing.
